1969 Top 10 Highest-Grossing & Award Winning Films

“I have not seen this original since it came out. I remember searching the TV Guide to see when this would be on next. I watch it now and have fond memories or laying on the living room floor staring up at the TV. Today it still has some pull, but I think this is the last time I watch this. I found myself getting bored during the almost 2-hour cartoon flick.”

“A film set in the open love timeframe of society. Crazy influence from the Esalen-style retreat and Bob and Carol choose honesty and free love within their marriage. Their friends Ted and Alice have trouble copping with this information and how it projects upon their marriage. this movie pulls at societies struggles with sex being conflated with love. I think these couples felt they were on the cutting edge of relationship and still missed the boat. I’d watch it again to try to tease out all the microaggressions and challenges of navigating an open marriage.”

“This was the first X-rated film to win an academy award. Way ahead of its time. Very disturbing film with the skid row type lifestyle. People living desperately when no other options exist. I thought this film was great and might not see it again due to its depressing and dark nature. However, I highly recommend it if you have never seen it. To be honest, I had never seen it until now and glad I did. Voight and Hoffman’s characters were amazing. Superb acting!”

“I remember watching this so many times throughout my childhood. I would highlight it in the TV Guide so I knew when it was playing next. As I watch again newly, I realize film making has improved so much. The sets with the running film in the background to replicate driving down the road was comical. I loved the character Buddy Hackett played. I fell in love with Herbie and wanted my own volks when I could drive. My dad’s purple Volkswagen was so fun to work on with him as a child. He taught me to tune-up the bug, set points and give it an oil change. Regretfully, the purple bug died and was sold before I could drive. However, with dad’s help, I was able to get a used 72′ Super Beetle to drive in college which was so fun to commute around in.”

“This has always been a great western film. I love the banter between Robert Redford and Paul Newman. I wish more movies with both of them together were available. The location this film was shot in looks like Moab or the Grand Canyon area…BEAUTIFUL! I remember my dad singing Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head when I was a child and I loved this song. I would watch again on a lazy afternoon.”

“For a foreign film with subtitles, it was a surprisingly good period film. The privilege of the elite in Russia was obscene. No wonder there was a Russian revolution. Character development was interesting too. It was a good film to watch while rowing as I was concentrating on reading the subtitles and got lost in thought and before I knew it my workout was complete.

“Interesting film and also very odd. The main character Charlie Bubbles is disconnected from his incongruence in his life. He is also alienated from his children, which hits home for me. Not wanting to see again, but an interesting view of family life during the 60s.”

#100 Β Never Give You Up (Jerry Butler) πŸ‘πŸΌ

Lyrics:
… Never gonna give you up
No matter how you treat me
Never gonna give you up
So don’t you think of leavin’πŸͺ„
… Girl, you treat me bad and I know why
Yeah, I’ve seen you runnin’ around with another guy
And you think if you hurt me that I’ll go away
Made it up in my mind that I’m here to stayπŸͺ„
… So tell him
(Never gonna give you up)
Whisper in his ear
(No matter how you treat me)
You tell him that Jerry said he’ll never let you go (never gonna give you up)
(So don’t you think of leavin’)
Hey, don’t you understand
What you’re doing to the man?πŸͺ„
… Do you see these tears here in my eyes?
Ain’t no use in me lyin’ ’cause I really cried
You think you’re gonna take me and put me on the shelf
Girl, I’d rather die than see you with somebody elseπŸͺ„
… So throw it out of your mind (never gonna give you up)
I’ll never leave you (no matter how you treat me, never gonna give you up)
Though you grieve me and deceive me, yeah (so don’t you think of leavin’)
Hey, don’t you understand
What you’re doing to the man?πŸͺ„
… My friends all say that I’m your fool
And you’re using me like a carpenter uses a tool
And I know their intentions are all very good
Some of them would help me if they couldπŸͺ„
… But I’m never gonna give you up
Never, never, never, never let you go
(No matter how you treat me)
No matter what you say (never gonna give you up)
(So don’t you think of leavin’)
Baby, don’t you understand
That you’re killing this man?πŸͺ„
… never gonna give you up
(No matter how you treat me) no matter what you do to me, baby now
(So don’t you think of leavin’) one of these days
I’ll be always standing around the door (never gonna give you up)
(No matter how you treat me)
Even though you say that you don’t love me no more (never gonna give you up)
